Measuring is easy.   Anyone can do it, all you need is a tape measure.  We will need just two measurements for determining the size for your window coverings.  Since windows are not really square we will measure each direction twice and use the smallest measurement to ensure that our blinds will fit nicely in your windows.

Remember these pointers:

  1. Always give the WIDTH first, then the HEIGHT (W X H).
  2. All measurements should be to the nearest 1/8".  Don't worry about clearance we'll deduct for that.
  3. Measure the plaster or casement opening not the glass.
  4. All windows are not perfectly square. Measure in at least two different spots on the window and always write down the smallest size.

Upon checkout, follow these steps:

( W X H)

  1. To find your width measurement first measure from side to side across the lower part of the window. Holding the tape on the inside edge measuring to the other inside edge. Record the width.
  2. Measure from side to side across the upper part of the window.
    Record the width.
  3. The smallest measurement of these two is the proper width for
    ordering.

(W X H )
  1. On the left side of the window measure from top to bottom. From inside edge to inside edge of the window opening. Record the Height.
  2. Measure the height on the right side. Record the height.
  3. The smallest measurement of these two is the proper width for
    ordering.

Now that you have the correct (W X H) you need to decide whether or not you want inside or outside mount blinds.  Details below.

Inside Mount:

A blind that is mounted inside your window opening

Reasons:

  • The window doesn't go to the floor
  • You want to set furniture close to the wall
  • You want the easiest mounting option

Outside Mount:

A blind that is larger than your opening and that needs to be mounted on the outside

Reasons:

  • You want to emphasize a window making it look bigger by running it to the floor
  • You do not have deep enough window casing (2 1/2"+) for an inside mount
  • There is a favorite pet in your house that likes to sit in the window sill

For the inside mount use the exact measurements that you have.

For an outside mount add 6" to both the width and the height 3" overhang all around the window
